A weekly gathering in Queens began with six students sharing advice about rental contracts. It now connects hundreds of new arrivals with practical help.
Volunteers translate complex rules into checklists and pair newcomers with graduates who remember the uncertainty of their first months.
The groups are careful not to replace professional legal advice, particularly as immigration rules change.
Their strength comes from trust: small acts of welcome that make a vast city feel manageable.
